International Women in Engineering Day, meet Karen Bice

On June 23rd, we celebrate the International Women in Engineering Day in order to honor women in the field of engineering. For the occasion, let’s learn more about Karen Bice, our Director of Programs and Engineering at Safran Data Systems, Inc.

June 26, 2023

Women in engineering day

3 Questions to Karen Bice, Director of Programs and Engineering at Safran Data Systems, Inc.

Who Are You?

I’m Karen Bice, Director or Programs and Engineering.

Our goal is to break barriers and accomplish tasks never performed in our facility, such as assembling/validating a 7.3M antenna, the largest we’ve ever done. We are also working to create our own on-site engineering capabilities and increase US work scope share to meet our SDSI’s Buy American Act goals.

What do you enjoy the most about working at Safran?

Without a doubt, the people. We have a monumental task to meet daily customer needs while finding the time grow our organization exponentially. It takes an all-hands-in effort while leaving egos at the door, I couldn’t imagine taking our organization to new heights with any other group of folks.

What would you say to younger women hoping to join Safran Data Systems, Inc. or Safran?

Follow your dreams and dare to accept challenges. Follow your gut, be persistent, and don’t let others limit what you believe you can do. Keep learning, technology is changing fast, be open to change as well as to relearning and redefining yourself. Find a mentor, be it a supervisor, colleague or professional friend. Above all else, give yourself some slack when you fail. If you aren’t failing you are not trying; learn from your mistakes, shake yourself off and get back in the game.

Best Source Selector
Cutting-Edge Technology

The CORTEX Best Source Selector (BSS) represents the ultimate solution for real-time telemetry source selection. When multiple antennas track the same airframe across diverse channels, BSS is your primary tool for precisely identifying the best Telemetry source.

This intelligent system streamlines the selection process by automatically singling out the top Telemetry stream.

It can handle a high volume of sources, often exceeding 16, utilizing a blend of signal quality metrics and other crucial criteria. With its extensive capabilities in path alignment and delay compensation, the CORTEX Best Source Selector ensures the selection of the optimal source, regardless of antenna locations or the nature of your range infrastructure.
