CORTEX RSR-RF, Digital Telemetry Recorder
Available in two versions

The CORTEX RSR-RF is a digital recorder that plays a crucial role in capturing and reproducing the RF analog signal received by the antenna before any processing takes place.

It serves as a vital component in a Telemetry Station, ensuring the highest availability of critical data, especially in cases where on-board recording is not possible. The data collected during a flight can be thoroughly analyzed offline, providing the flexibility to fine-tune various settings in the receiver or decommutator, optimizing the extraction of every bit of the recorded signal. This in-flight data offers extensive post-processing flexibility.

You can adjust various settings in the receiver, the bit synchronizer, and the decommutator to maximize data extraction, a capability achievable only through RF recording. Additionally, it proves to be an invaluable tool for test range qualification before significant flights.

The RSR-RF is available in 2 versions:

RSR-RF-40

RSR-RF-200

Best Source Selector
Cutting-Edge Technology

The CORTEX Best Source Selector (BSS) represents the ultimate solution for real-time telemetry source selection. When multiple antennas track the same airframe across diverse channels, BSS is your primary tool for precisely identifying the best Telemetry source.

This intelligent system streamlines the selection process by automatically singling out the top Telemetry stream.

It can handle a high volume of sources, often exceeding 16, utilizing a blend of signal quality metrics and other crucial criteria. With its extensive capabilities in path alignment and delay compensation, the CORTEX Best Source Selector ensures the selection of the optimal source, regardless of antenna locations or the nature of your range infrastructure.

National Intern Day: Meet Sam Spivey

Today is National Intern Day! The opportunity to celebrate Sam Spivey, one of our interns at Safran Data Systems, Inc.

July 28, 2023

National Intern Day, Safran Data Systems, Inc.

Interview with Sam Spivey

1. Present Yourself!

My name is Sam Spivey, I currently go to Georgia Georgia Institute of Technology (Atlanta, GA) for my bachelor in Aerospace Engineering. I am currently Quality and Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) intern at Safran Data Systems, Inc. (Norcross, GA).

2. How did you hear about Safran’s internship program?

My mother goes to church with Leonard Ferron, who works at Safran Data Systems, and his wife and was curious about any internship opportunities. After a tour with Leonard at Safran Data Systems sometime later, I was eventually brought on as an intern.

3. What are your main responsibilities?

I am currently working under Howard Alter, Manager  of the Quality and HSE Department. Some of my responsibilities have included assisting him with presentations, tracking our KPIs, ensuring we have all the documentation for the chemicals we work with is in place, and performing internal audits.

4. What is something you have learned during your internship that you did not learn in the classroom?

I would say one thing would be the firsthand experience of just how important internal audits are. Ensuring and confirming that everything is up to par and regulation keeps us as a company productive and orderly.

5. What is one thing you enjoy the most about your internship?

It has all been very enjoyable, but I would say the general ability to see an aerospace company operate up-close has been an incredible learning opportunity and insightful experience. Nothing beats up close firsthand experience.

6. What is your advice to other interns looking to get the most of their experience?

Remember that it is all a learning opportunity. Don’t be afraid to ask any questions and always take the initiative to be as helpful and productive as you can. Try your best to talk to others outside of your department before you leave the internship to get the best scope of the industry as a whole as you possibly can. And also, have fun!

Hire a Veteran Day: Discover Rob Dawson

To commemorate Veterans Day, Safran Data Systems, Inc. highlights Rob Dawson who served for the country. Discover his experiences and best advice.

July 25, 2023

Veteran Day, US Military Veteran, Safran USA

Interview of Rob Dawson, Sales Manager at Safran Data Systems, Inc.

1. What was your full rank and what part of armed services were you in?

I was a E-5 in the United States Marine Corp. Military service has been a family thing. My grandfather was a Pilot during WW2 in the Army Air Corporation; my dad was a Marine during Vietnam.

I started my Career in the Marines by going to Boot Camp in Parris Island, SC. Transitioned to Pensacola, Fl for Aircraft Electronics. Ended up in at VMMT-204 then to VMX-1 while working and testing the V-22 Osprey during its initial roll out. I provided Avionics support and Crew Chief duties during my time. My last two years of service I spent at Pax River, MD bringing the V22 back to flight. I was meritoriously promoted to Corporal and Sargant.

2.What was your role in that unit?

I was the Night Crew Avionics supervisor, QAR – quality insurance on all maintenance from my shop. Job was to mentor and train younger Marines while ensuring all work was completed safely.

3.Tell us more about your work experience at Safran Data Systems, Inc.?

I joined Safran Data Systems in Sept 2017. This is my first job post High School that was not a govt job. It has been an exciting cross over. The opportunity to continue to serve the military and our commercial friends has been exciting. The number of programs our products touch is impressive and it’s always great saying we have items that fly on this aircraft or that one.

4.What skills developed in the military are you using as Wester Sales Manager?

Leadership and unit communication is paramount in everything we do not only at Safran but in the military. I’m not sure it’s a skill but the military taught me how to handle myself in tough situations. Maybe more helped define a character trait. There is no situation that is too big and there is no customer request that is too small. I approach all situations the same and work hard at them.

5. Why hire veterans at Safran Data Systems, Inc.?

Safran Data Systems, Inc.’s main customer base is military, DOD and Tier 1 primes. Being able to operate and work in this environment is important. To know the rank of a military member is a major military curtesy. Typically speaking a military person understands two core fundamentals: work hard to mission accomplishment and troop welfare meaning they will take care of their teammates/coworkers. I think everyone in a business can appreciate these core values. We all want to accomplish our mission and we want to feel a part of a great team and be taken care of made to feel important. Safran Data Systems, Inc. does a great job of accomplishing this.

Bourget Air Show, Paris Air Show, Safran Data Systems, Inc.

The Biggest Aerospace Show of the World

The Paris Air Show is one of the biggest aeronautics show in the world, representing:

– 2,500 exhibitors from 46 countries, including 1,130 from France

– 300 Start-ups from 21 countries

– 125,000 sqm of exhibition space (halls + chalets + static)

– 150 aircraft

– Total of 400,000 entries over the week

This was an opportunity for Safran to emphasize its role as a key player in the aerospace industry to customers, partners and potential new employees alike. In addition to aeronautics, space was also an important part of our stand. Presenting our space capabilities under the same banner serves to establish Safran as a key global equipment supplier independent of space contractors.

Two Safran Data Systems products were presented:

Tracking Space Antennas, Earth Observation, Communication Satellites

ORION, Space Tracking Antenna

ORION is a large-diameter (7 to 20 m) tracking antenna for cutting-edge space applications such as tracking observation satellites, scientific missions such as future moon applications, or space vehicles. Born from Safran expertise in automation, mechanical engineering and radio frequencies, ORION is regularly selected by the most demanding customers such as NASA, JAXA or ground segment operators, who seek the best performance in space data reception across several frequency bands at the same time.

Data acquisition unit, HEIM, FTI

CMA, Data Acquisition Unit for Launch Vehicles

CMA is an airborne data acquisition system designed to transmit all launcher critical data to the ground, during the launch phase and throughout the mission. The ultra-compact CMA can perform a multitude of operations under extreme temperatures and in real time, such as sensor activation, signal and data acquisition transiting via bus connections or GNSS reception
