Interview

1. Present Yourself!

My name is Dave Carr, I currently go to Georgia Highlands College for my bachelor in Logistics and Supply Chain Management. I am currently Supply Chain intern at Safran Data Systems, Inc. (Norcross, GA).

2. Why did you choose to apply for an internship at Safran Data Systems, Inc.?

I fell in love with the aerospace industry while working hands on with an aerospace museum for a school project. The project consisted of figuring out how to move a Jetstar plane from a local airport to the museum. Coincidentally, I met someone who was working at Safran Data Systems, Inc. at the time, at my previous job. We chatted about Safran and my degree and she informed me of an opening for the supply chain internship so I applied!

3. In which team do you work? Tell us more about your daily tasks and the projects that you are working on.

I have been able to learn a lot in my short time with Safran. Learning hands on in the shipping department has given me many firsthand experiences with the equipment we manufacture. On top of that, learning the international shipping regulations and various shipping codes has helped solidify my understandings because each unit has very specific codes based on the descriptions. I have really enjoyed working with all the employees here in Norcross. It is a very welcoming environment, and everyone has the willingness to help if I ask for it.

4. Do you have any advice for students applying to or starting internships?

I believe there are three important concepts to understand when going into an internship. The first is that in an internship there is no task too big or little, so stay humble and do the task to the best of your ability. Secondly, there is no such thing as a stupid question. If you do not know the answer to something or the proper procedures for a task, ask someone. It is better to take the time to ask than to waste time doing something wrong. Furthermore, having the willingness to learn and the ability to adapt under pressure will go along way towards how successful an internship is!
